What a fantastic event this was! Held online for the first time this year, the virtual platform really lent itself to a gathering of scholars and colleagues from around the globe. With over 106 different attendees across the two days. The conference enabled a rich exchange and celebration of research perspectives, knowledge and experiences. Over 30 presentations provided an arena for the LASAR conference community to collaborate and strengthen epistemological research and discussion.

Although a daunting prospect, I was given opportunity on the second day of the conference to present my paper, “Why did the Titanic sink?” – bridging two disciplines to teach epistemic insight. Explaining the epistemic insight driven KS2 workshop which aimed to develop primary students’ understanding of how to investigate a cross-disciplinary question.

The preliminary data presented from 108 primary school participants revealed some encouraging shifts in thinking. Suggesting that post workshop, students were becoming familiar with the language of discipline and engaging with the notion that science and history have questions, methods and norms of thought that are preferred by that specific discipline.

To make the most of this opportunity, I planned and practiced the presentation. I enjoyed interacting and responding to attendees during the Q&A session; whilst the support of my colleagues gave me a real confidence boost.

Credit for the smooth running of the conference is a testament to the great communication and teamwork I experience daily, as a member of the LASAR team. Everyone worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure presenters were in the correct room, with their presentations uploaded and ready, and that attendees were able to access the appropriate rooms effectively. The conference was a real success and it is hoped that over the coming year, we can continue this dialogue and collaboration with all who attended.

I look forward to next years LASAR conference in Oxford 21st-22nd June. I hope you will join us.
